Use Categories to organise related SKUs within Warehouse.
Categories can help group similar products together and can be configured
globally, for a specific contract, or underneath another category to create
a category hierarchy.
Before you start
Decide:
- What the category will be used to group.
- The unique code and name for the category.
- Whether it should be available globally or only for a specific contract.
- Whether it should sit underneath another category.
1. Create a new category
Open Categories.
Select the + button in the top-left of the screen.
The category details window will open.
2. Enter the category details
Complete the information for the new category.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Code | Enter a unique code used to identify the category. |
| Name | Enter a clear, user-friendly name for the category. |
| Active | Controls whether the category is currently active and available for use. |
| Contract | Select a contract if the category should only apply to that customer.
Leave this blank when the category should be available globally. |
| Colour | Assign a colour to help visually distinguish the category from others. |
| Category | Select another category if this category should sit underneath it as a
child category. |
| Notes / Description | Add any additional information that helps explain the purpose of the
category. |
Note: The Code must be unique and cannot use the same code as an
existing category.

3. Choose whether the category is global or contract-specific
Use the Contract field to control where the category is
available.
| Setup | When to use it |
|---|---|
| Global category | Leave Contract blank when the category can be used
across multiple contracts. |
| Contract-specific category | Select a contract when the category should only be used for that
customer. |
Tip: Use a global category for product groupings that are shared across customers,
and a contract-specific category when the grouping only applies to one
customer.
4. Create a category hierarchy
Categories can be placed underneath another category to create a simple
parent-and-child structure.
To create a child category, select the parent using the Category field.
For example:
| Parent category | Child category |
|---|---|
| Clothing | T-Shirts |
| Clothing | Jackets |
Note: Leave the Category field blank when the new category should
remain a top-level category.

5. Save the category
Review the category information before saving.
Check that:
- The code is correct and unique.
- The category name is clear.
- The correct contract has been selected where required.
- The category is marked as active if it should be available immediately.
- The correct parent category has been selected where required.
Save the category.
The category can now be used when configuring SKUs.

Manage an existing category
Open an existing category when its configuration needs to be updated.
You may need to change:
- The category name.
- Whether the category is active.
- The contract it belongs to.
- Its colour.
- Its parent category.
- The notes or description.
Tip: Review how a category is already being used before changing its contract or
parent-category structure.
What happens next?
Once created, the category can be assigned to SKUs to help organise products
within Warehouse.
Next step:
Open Create and manage SKUs and assign the category to the
required products.
