Use Valid Locations to control which warehouse locations can be used for a particular SKU.

This can help keep products in suitable storage areas and make stock handling more consistent across the warehouse.

Before you start

Make sure:

  • The SKU has already been created in Warehouse.
  • The warehouse locations you want to use already exist.
  • You know which locations are suitable for the product.

1. Open the SKU

Go to Products & SKUs → Manage SKUs.

Find the SKU you want to update and open its details.

2. Open the valid location settings

Within the SKU details, locate the area used to manage the valid warehouse locations for the SKU.

Review any locations that are already associated with the product.

Note: A valid location should match the physical storage requirements and normal warehouse process for the SKU.

3. Select a valid location

Select the warehouse location that should be valid for the SKU.

Before selecting the location, consider whether it is suitable for:

  • The type of product being stored.
  • The physical size of the stock.
  • The normal picking process.
  • Any storage restrictions that apply to the SKU.
Tip: Use valid locations to keep products in predictable areas of the warehouse, particularly where specific shelves or storage zones are preferred.

4. Add additional valid locations

A SKU can have more than one valid warehouse location.

Select the + button in the top-left of the valid locations area to add another location.

Select the additional warehouse location and repeat this process for any other locations that should be valid for the SKU.

5. Save the changes

Review the selected locations and check that they are correct.

Select Save to update the SKU.

The SKU will now be associated with the selected valid warehouse locations.

Manage existing valid locations

Return to the SKU whenever its storage requirements change.

From the valid locations area, you can:

  • Review the locations currently associated with the SKU.
  • Add additional valid locations.
  • Change an existing location where required.
  • Remove locations that should no longer be used.
Tip: Review the effect of removing a valid location if stock for the SKU is already stored there.

What happens next?

The selected locations are now recorded as valid storage locations for the SKU.

These settings can help guide where the product should be stored and managed within Warehouse.

Next step:
Use Receive stock into Warehouse when you are ready to add inventory for the SKU, or Create and manage warehouse locations if additional storage locations need to be created
